Try living in rainy Holland. I have given up on umbrellas a long time ago; my solution - just enjoy the rain and don't worry about getting soaked, its water and eventually it will dry (usually right before you need to go out into the rain again). And John: who cares about Marry Poppins (for those who do; I didn't read anything about not using an umbrella to fly!)
