But what you don't get is balance. You're all stressed so you try not to show your emotions. What about those of us that are balanced and more apt at internalising - learning to emote can be key to balancing out our relationships with all of you constantly exasperated stress monkeys.

Re: A frivolous lawsuit over Greyhound beheading

Hey Scott, thanks from coming here to share your comments.

Yes, I have heard of PTSD and in no way am I saying that this crime wasn't sickening or that people haven't been traumatized. My point was that suing Greyhound to the tune of $6 million is frivolous.

To say that we can just add more security and be safe is false thinking. Nothing can keep us completely safe and to be honest, i prefer my freedom. Think of a different scenario - imagine this happened in a church. Would you say that the church is at fault for not providing security? Should we start putting up metal detectors and searching people everywhere, not just in church but at malls, in grocery stores, on the street? Where is it that you need to be protected?

I could understand Greyhound being at fault if it was the driver or Greyhound staff who committed the crime; if they had shown signs of mental illness or job stress and Greyhound did nothing to help the driver and then this happened. Yes, in that situation, then Greyhound would be responsible.

But crime happens everywhere and it's not the venue or establishment that's responsible. It's the responsibility of the person who committed the crime.

I do agree...giving $225 is tacky. I think a better method would have been to help bring more awareness to the stigma of mental health by donating to a related cause. I also think they could have offered to provide ongoing and quality counselling for those Greyhound passengers because that is what they need. They don't need $6 million. How is $6 million going to solve their PTSD? It won't, they are just being greedy.

Re: Is patience a virtue?

I hear ya, driving makes me bonkers. Even when I'm not late for something I get so frustrated and have to consciously remind myself to be more patient. I'm so thankful I don't have to drive that often!

Re: Is patience a virtue?

I'm glad you texted me! I'm happy to know it got there. And I think there still is value in texting; it's probably one of my favourite forms of communication and I take the time to ensure I communicate properly through that channel. But I think that most people don't, or they use texting when they should be using other channels (like the phone).

I did not put that together for that song! Thank you for bringing that to my attention, it's totally going on my playlist.

And...here's a link to it. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: Is patience a virtue?

You nailed it. Patience is about being in the moment.

I find I'm the most impatient driving, or more specifically with other drivers. Being late makes me anxious (I'm an anxious person anyway) so when drivers are driving slower than molasses, it drives me crazy. Even when I know I will make it to my destination in plenty of time. By accepting being in the moment I could enjoy my drive and pay more attention to new areas, streets, trees, etc.

I start tomorrow.

Re: Is patience a virtue?

I think that being patient is less stressful, which is definitely a positive thing. I try to be patient, but it doesn't always happen! I appreciated your letter, thank you, I did text you back (which is funny)! That is why I love the Arcade Fire song 'We Used To Wait', it is all about how we used to wait for letters to arrive, and how letters were as important as life and death, and also the idea that the singer used to sign his name, but in the short time between meeting his wife and now, he no longer does. So much has happened so fast in our lives in terms of technology and communication.

Re: A frivolous lawsuit over Greyhound beheading

You are totally wrong, dude. Even the commenters have noted how sickening this crime was. Imagine, having to experience it first hand. Ever hear of PTSD? Many of the passengers have yet to recover from this, and there was absolutely ZERO security. A basic bag search or metal detector would have caught the large buck knife. He was also reported to be wandering around, muttering to himself before he got on board. Greyhound gave passengers on that bus (including people who sat right across from this horror a grand total of $225 each, and that was to compensate for their damaged bags (saturated in blood,) which probably had a greater value than what they were compensated.

Re: Is handwriting a valuable skill, a lost art, or a pointless task?

Mail that's not bills, of course. I'm supporting you in this.

Last year (or was it 2011?) I tried something similar. Each month I eliminated a bad habit or diet related something. The first month I got rid of sugar from my diet for the entire month. For another I was meatless. I did this for 12 months and felt good that I accomplished it each month. It was easier than trying to make resolutions for an entire year that would be broken.

I'm going to give this some thought to see what I want to dedicate myself to doing.

Re: The shocking truth about learning from your mistakes.

I'm certainly glad I can laugh about it now! :)

I would LOVE to go camping with you!
